About this event

Fukui's official travel guide records the Mikuni Festival every year from 19 to 21 May, with the main event on 20 May, when six neighbourhood floats up to six and a half metres tall, each topped by a warrior figure, gather at Mikuni Shrine and process through the town to shamisen, flute and taiko music. The festival has over 300 years of history and is a Fukui Prefecture intangible folk cultural property.
