About this event

Fukui's official travel guide describes the Katsuyama Sagicho as a February festival of over 300 years' standing: twelve yagura towers rise around town for music and the comic ukidaiko drumming, and on Sunday night sacred fire from Shinmei Shrine lights the dondo-yaki bonfires by the Kuzuryu River. The 2026 edition ran on 21 and 22 February; the 2027 weekend is expected to fall on 20 and 21 February and is not yet announced.
