About this event

The competition is held on the last Saturday of August each year; the 98th edition was held on Saturday 29 August 2026, and the organiser had not yet published 2027 dates when checked, so the 2027 edition is expected on Saturday 28 August 2027. About 18,000 fireworks are launched by 28 competing companies, and Omagari is the only fireworks competition in Japan with a daytime section, where coloured smoke shells are judged against the daylight sky.
