About this event
The Akita Sake Brewery Train runs on 11 fixed dates published by the Akita Nairiku Railway, over the roughly 94 kilometres from Kakunodate to Takanosu: reception at Kakunodate Station at 10:30, departure at 11:05 and arrival at Takanosu at 13:09, in a dedicated event car. Each run features a different brewery, whose representatives usually ride and talk through five or six of its sakes, from seasonal releases to limited production bottles, with a special otsumami snack bento on board. The dates and breweries are 15 November 2026 (Suzuki Shuzoten, Hideyoshi), 12 December (Azakura Shuzo, Azakura), 13 December (Asamai Shuzo, Amanoto), 19 December (Hokushika), 20 December (Akita Seishu, Dewatsuru and Kariho), 26 December (Kodama Jozo, Taiheizan), 16 January 2027 (Akita Meijo, Ranman), 13 February (Dainagawa), 14 February (Saimi Shuzoten, Yuki no Bousha), 21 February (Akita-ken Hakko Kogyo, Itteki Senryo) and 27 February (Kimura Shuzo, Fukukomachi). On 20 December and 14 February the brewery representative does not ride. Tickets are 7,000 yen (about US$44) per person including the fare, the sake, the snack bento and tax, and online card payment adds a 330 yen (about US$2) system fee. Places are limited to 25 per run, first come first served, each run needs at least 10 people to go ahead, and passengers must be 20 or over. Booking is through the railway, online or through its travel centre on 0186-82-3231, prepaid by card or bank transfer, and closes two weeks before each run or when the run fills.
