About this event

Yokote City and its tourism association announced in July 2025 that from 2026 the kamakura move to the second Friday and Saturday of February under a trial running to 2029, replacing the fixed 15 and 16 February dates that older guides still cite; in 2027 those days are Friday 12 and Saturday 13 February, with the kamakura open in the evening from 18:00 to 21:00. Inside the huts, children serve amazake and rice cakes beside an altar to the water deity, and thousands of miniature kamakura are lit along the Janosaki riverbed. The separate Bonten events stay fixed on 16 and 17 February and are not part of these dates.
