Yamaguchi event listings give the Ube Festival on 1 November 2026, continuing a tradition since 1933 on the Seto Inland Sea shore, with a pre festival the evening before. The head of the hikiyama offers coal mochi, black rice cakes standing for the town's coal, along the route.
