About this event
Thousands of Tanabata decorations made of washi paper and bamboo, including long streamers, are displayed in the arcades and streets of central Sendai, a tradition the official festival site traces to the time of Date Masamune and now holds on 6 to 8 August. The previous edition was held 6 to 8 August 2026, preceded by fireworks on 5 August, and the 2027 dates are not yet published, so the dates shown follow the festival's traditional fixed dates.
