About this event
One of Japan's three great river festivals, with a history of about 600 years, and part of UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage listing for Yama, Hoko and Yatai float festivals. On the Saturday night, five makiwara boats carrying more than 400 lanterns each move along the Tenno River; on the Sunday morning, danjiri boats follow. The 2026 edition ran on 25 and 26 July. The festival is held on the fourth Saturday of July and the following Sunday; official dates for 2027 have not yet been published, and the window shown follows that pattern. Tsushima is an easy day trip from Nagoya.
