About this event

The Katakai-machi Fireworks Association, the organiser, gives the festival's full name as the Asahara Shrine Autumn Grand Festival Dedication Fireworks (Katakai Matsuri) and states it is held every year on the second Saturday of September and the preceding Friday, with the 2026 edition on 11 and 12 September; the 2027 dates had not been published when checked, so the expected dates are Friday 10 and Saturday 11 September 2027. About 15,000 fireworks are launched over the two days as offerings to the shrine, including a yonshakudama, described by the association as the world's largest, at 22:00 on both days.
