Yoshida Fire Festival (Yoshida no Himatsuri)

About 80 torches three metres high turn Fujiyoshida's main street into a sea of fire on 26 and 27 August, closing the Fuji climbing season.

About this event
The Japan Tourism Agency multilingual database describes the Yoshida Fire Festival, held jointly by Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine and Suwa Shrine on 26 and 27 August as a mountain closing festival. Two mikoshi are carried through the streets, including the one tonne Fuji shaped mikage. The Susuki Festival follows on the afternoon of 27 August.
