About this event
Oita's official tourism site lists the Usuki Stone Buddha Fire Festival on Saturday 29 August 2026 (tentative), when around a thousand torches are lit among the 12th-century cliff-carved Buddhas, a National Treasure, and the surrounding rice fields are outlined in fire. The 2027 edition is expected on the last Saturday of August, 28 August, and is not yet announced.
