About this event

Rikubetsu has held the Shibare Festival since 1982; its signature Human Endurance Challenge puts volunteers to sleep overnight in ice-dome balloon mansions around a central bonfire, with fireworks fired into the clear sub-zero sky. Hokkaido's official tourism site listed the previous edition on 7 and 8 February 2026; 2027 dates had not been published at verification, so the window shown is the matching first full weekend of February.
