About this event

The official Kansai tourism guide gives the Nachi Fire Festival every 14 July at Kumano Nachi Taisha, a rite recalling the transfer of the shrine's deities to the Nachi Falls. Bearers in white carry twelve great pine torches down the stone steps, purifying the route of the twelve ogi-mikoshi fan shrines, and the Nachi dengaku dance is performed in the shrine grounds.
