About this event
Matsue's official tourism calendar describes the Suitoro Water Lantern Festival on weekends and holidays through the autumn, when hundreds of handmade lanterns illuminate the Matsue Castle grounds, the castle moat and Shiomi Nawate street, with night openings of the castle and a draw-your-own lantern studio. The 2026 edition ran on festival evenings from 26 September to 18 October, 6pm to 9pm; the 2027 edition is expected on the same late-September to mid-October weekend pattern.
