About this event

Oita's official tourism site lists the Hita Gion Festival on the last Saturday and Sunday of July (25 and 26 July in 2026), when nine great Yamahoko floats are pulled through the old merchant quarters of Mameda and Kuma to Gion music. The festival is inscribed by UNESCO among Japan's float festivals. The 2027 edition is expected on 31 July and 1 August on the same last-weekend pattern.
