One of Japan's oldest snow festivals, founded in 1950 in one of the country's heaviest snowfall cities, with snow sculptures built by the community across Tokamachi.

Niigata Prefecture's official tourism site lists the 78th Tokamachi Snow Festival for Friday 19 to Sunday 21 February 2027, with the judging of the snow art exhibition held on the night of 19 February. The festival began in 1950, on the idea of making friends with the snow, and its centrepiece is the snow sculptures built by neighbourhoods, schools and companies across the city.
