美食
日本的行事曆有一半是可以吃的：釀酒區的清酒祭、海岸的蟹和牡蠣季節、每個祭典都有的小吃攤。先看美食活動，再認識這些形式。
祭典攤位（屋台）。每個祭典都有自己的美食街：炒麵、章魚燒、烤玉米、刨冰。站著吃，邊走邊吃，煙火氣最旺的攤位通常最好吃。
地下美食街。大百貨公司的地下美食層是日本的美食長廊：各地甜點、便當、清酒、醃菜，全部禮盒包裝。打烊前一小時去，有折扣便當。
站弁。車站便當是地方料理的縮小版，在月台買、上車吃。沒有站弁的新幹線旅程，等於少了一道菜。
商店街與市場。拱廊商店街和早市（京都錦市場、大阪黑門市場、北國的港口市場）是城市真正買菜的地方。帶著空肚子，早點去。

Opening-of-season crab market for Echizen gani, Fukui's prized snow crab, with boiled-crab stalls, live auctions and seafood barbecues on the coast. Held over two weekends only.
