Tokyoattractions incontournables.

Mount Fuji day tour, from Tokyo

The Five Lakes and Kawaguchiko with the mountain across the water, by coach from Shinjuku or Tokyo Station. The classic first-timer's day out.

Comment réserver :Full-day tours run daily. The mountain hides often; clear winter mornings are the most reliable, and no operator can promise the view.

Baseball at Tokyo Dome, with a guide

A live Japanese game the easy way: an English-speaking guide, the ticket included, a borrowed home jersey and cheering gear, and the songs explained. In season it is the Yomiuri Giants at Tokyo Dome, one of the loudest crowds in Japanese sport; out of season the same tour covers the big Tokyo baseball dates, from the Asia Professional Baseball Championship in November to the Keio-Waseda college rivalry at Jingu.

Comment réserver :Booked online by fixture date on Trip.com; the guide meets the group at the stadium. Japanese clubs sell almost no tickets through foreign platforms, so this guided route is the reliable way in.

Sanrio Puroland

Hello Kitty's indoor theme park in Tama, western Tokyo: parades, shows and more pink than seems possible.

Comment réserver :Date-specific tickets online; closed some weekdays, check the calendar before going.

Senso-ji and Asakusa

Tokyo's oldest temple and the Nakamise shopping street that leads to it: the essential old-Tokyo morning.

Comment réserver :Free, no ticket. Go before 9 in the morning for the temple without the crowds.

Tokyo National Museum

Japan's largest collection of Japanese art, swords to kimono, in Ueno Park.

Comment réserver :Tickets at the door or online; closed Mondays.

Ghibli Museum, Mitaka

Hayao Miyazaki's museum in Inokashira Park: small, strange and made entirely by hand. Worth the planning it takes.

Comment réserver :Tickets are an official lottery and sale only, about a month ahead. There is no legitimate resale; the museum does not permit resale, and tickets offered elsewhere may not be honoured.
