The dry grass of Mt Wakakusa above Nara Park is burned in a single line of fire, preceded by fireworks.

Nara Prefecture's official event page gives the 2027 date as Saturday 23 January, the fourth Saturday of January. Fireworks are fired from 18:15 and the mountainside is set alight at 18:30, a rite that draws crowds across Nara Park; there is no postponement date in poor weather.
