Oita's official tourism site lists the Oita Tanabata Festival on the first Friday and Saturday of August (7 and 8 August in 2026), when the Funai Pacchin parade of great illuminated washi-paper floats, Chikirin Bayashi dancing and taiko fill the streets around Oita Station. The 2027 edition is expected on 6 and 7 August on the same pattern.
