The Nozawa Onsen village portal gives the Dosojin Matsuri as 13 to 15 January each year, culminating in the fire ceremony on the night of 15 January, when 42-year-old defenders on the shaden and 25-year-olds at its base fight off the torch attack before the structure is burned. Entry to the fire ceremony ground is restricted to village residents and guests staying overnight in the village, with a ticket required.
